An Act to vest in the Corporation of the City of Dunedin, as a site for a Town Hall, a portion of Reserve No. I, on the Plan of the Town of Dunedin, now vested in the said Corporation in trust for a Public Market for the City of Dunedin and its Inhabitants.
Preamble.
WHEREAS the parcel of land described in the Schedule hereto was, by a grant from the Crown made under the provisions of “The Public Reserves Act, 1854,”
and dated the twenty-eighth day of June, one thousand eight hundred and fifty-eight, granted to the Superintendent of the Province of Otago and his successors upon trust as a site for a public hospital: And whereas the said parcel of land having been found unsuitable as a site for the purposes of a hospital, it was by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Otago passed in the thirtieth year of the reign of Her present Majesty (Session XXIII., No. 257), shortly intituled “The Dunedin Reserves Management Ordinance, 1867,”
enacted that the said parcel of land should be and the same was thereby transferred to and vested in the Corporation of the City of Dunedin and its successors, as a corporate body, to be held by the said Corporation and its successors in trust for a public market for the City of Dunedin and its inhabitants: And whereas the Corporation of the City of Dunedin are desirous to use a portion of the said parcel of land as a site for a town hall, fire-brigade station, marketplace, and other buildings for municipal purposes, and it is expedient that they should be empowered so to do:
Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Dunedin Town Hall Site Act, 1877.”
2 Council may erect town hall and other buildings.
It shall be lawful for the Council of the City of Dunedin to erect upon the parcel of land described in the Schedule to this Act, or any part thereof, a town hall, and also a building for a fire-brigade station, a market-place, and such other buildings for municipal purposes as to the said Council shall seem meet: Provided that the remainder of said land shall be used solely for market purposes.
Schedule
ALL that parcel of land in the Town or City of Dunedin, in the Colony of New Zealand, containing by admeasurement two (2) acres one (1) rood and twenty-six (26) perches, more or less, being the Reserve numbered one (1) on the plan of the Town of Dunedin. Bounded on the North by Moray Place, one hundred and fifty-five and six-tenths (155·6) links; on the North-west by Moray Place, six hundred and twenty-one and three-tenths (621·3) links; on the South-west by Sections twenty-five (25) and thirty-seven (37), Block seventeen (XVII.), Dunedin, five hundred and six (506) links; on the South-east by a street, two hundred and thirty-four (234) links; on the East by Section thirty- three (33), Block seventeen (XVII.), Dunedin, two hundred and fifty-three (253) links; on the South by Section thirty-three (33), Block seventeen (XVII.), Dunedin, fifty-six (56) links; and on the East by Section thirty-two (32), Block seventeen (XVII.), Dunedin, two hundred and forty (240) links.
