The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Christchurch District Drainage Act 1875 Amendment Act, 1877.”

Before making any rate under the provisions of section fifty of the said Act the Board shall annually make an estimate of the expenditure incurred or to be incurred for the benefit of that portion of the district which is situated within the City of Christchurch (hereinafter called “the said city”), and also of those portions of the district which are not situated within the said city (hereinafter called “the suburban or rural districts”), and the rate to be then made on the said city, suburban or rural districts, respectively, shall be in proportion to the expenditure which shall have been incurred or to be incurred for the benefit of the said city, suburban or rural districts, respectively. The Drainage Board shall forthwith define the boundaries of the several suburban or rural districts, and shall from time to time, as it shall deem fit, alter such boundaries.

Nothing in this Act contained shall limit the power conferred on the Board by the said Act to make and levy a rate of one shilling in the pound equally over the whole of the said district, whenever the levy of such rate shall be necessary for the payment of the interest and sinking fund upon any moneys borrowed or to be borrowed under the authority of the said Act.

This Act shall be read and be deemed to form part of “The Christchurch District Drainage Act, 1875,” and the Board in this Act named shall be deemed to be the Board incorporated by the said “Christchurch District Drainage Act, 1875.”
