An Act to authorize certain Local Boards within the Provincial District of Wellington to make By-laws.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Wellington Local Boards Empowering Act, 1878.”
2 Repeal.
Sections seventy-three and seventy-four of “The Local Boards Act, 1873,”
passed by the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the former Province of Wellington (hereinafter called “the said Act”
), are hereby repealed.
3 Local Boards may make by-laws.
Any Local Board established under the said Act may from time to time make or revoke by-laws as they think fit: Provided that such by-laws shall have no force or effect until they have been approved by the Governor, and that they shall not come into force until they have first been published in some newspaper having general circulation in the district.
4 Past elections not to be void.
No past election of any member of any Local Board established under the said Act shall be invalidated by reason only of the name of the proposer or seconder or any voter at the election of such member not appearing on the district rate-book, if such proposer, seconder, or voter aforesaid shall have paid, in terms of the said Act, the last rate levied in the district previous to such election.
