An Act to vest in Trustees the Christchurch Rifle-range.
Preamble.
WHEREAS the piece of land in the neighbourhood of Christchurch described in the Schedule hereto has been acquired for the purpose of a rifle-range for the use of the Christchurch corps of Volunteers: And it is expedient for the proper control and maintenance of the same that such land should be vested in trustees with the powers provided in such cases by “The Defence Act, 1886:”
And whereas the said land is vested in Her Majesty the Queen:
Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act is “The Christchurch Rifle-range Act, 1888.”
2 Rifle-range vested in trustees subject to “Defence Act, 1886.”
The land described in the Schedule hereto is hereby vested for an estate in fee-simple in Alexander Lean, Lieutenant-Colonel commanding the Christchurch District of Volunteers, and his successors in such office, Henry Slater, Major in the Volunteer Force, Rookwood Comport Bishop, Captain in the Christchurch City Guards, and James Crosby Martin, Captain of the E Battery in the New Zealand Regiment of Artillery, so long as they shall respectively continue to be members of the Volunteer Force, as trustees to hold the said land as a rifle-range for the use of the Volunteers of the Christchurch District, subject to the provisions of Part III. of “The Defence Act, 1886,”
with power to the last-mentioned Volunteers to elect new trustees, being members of the Volunteer Force in the Christchurch District, in the place of any trustees other than the commanding officer aforesaid, who shall die, resign, or become incapable of acting as trustees.
3 Land to be vested,
In the event of the Volunteers of the Christchurch District, in the opinion of the Defence Minister for the time being, ceasing to use the whole or any part of the land described in the Schedule for the purposes of a rifle-range the land shall be vested in Her Majesty the Queen, and shall be and become part of the demesne lands of the Crown.

All that parcel of land containing 19 acres 3 roods 24 perches, more or less, being Rural Section 9907, Block XII., of the Christchurch Survey District; all that parcel of land containing 44 acres 2 roods, more or less, being rural section marked 26474, Block XII., of the Christchurch Survey District: as the same are delineated on the public map in the Survey Office, Christchurch.
