An Act to validate the Construction of a Bridge over the Waihou River by the Piako County Council.
Preamble.
WHEREAS at a place called Waiorongomai, situate on the banks of the Waihou River, on the upper part of the navigable waters thereof, the Piako County Council, in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six, erected a bridge without complying with the requirements of “The Harbours Act, 1878,”
relating to the construction of bridges over navigable waters, and have thereby become liable to proceedings for creating an obstruction to navigation: And whereas the construction of the said bridge for traffic has proved a great benefit and convenience to the settlers on both banks of the river, and it is, therefore, expedient to validate the construction of the said bridge:
Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act is “The Waiorongomai Bridge Act, 1892.”
2 Construction of bridge legalised.
The construction of the Waiorongomai Bridge by the Piako County Council is hereby approved, and shall be deemed from the time of the construction thereof to have been approved, as fully and entirely for all purposes as if the requirements of section one hundred and fifty-six of “The Harbours Act, 1878,”
had been complied with by the said Council, and as if the Governor in Council had approved the plans of the said bridge before the construction thereof had been commenced.
