An Act to empower the Inangahua County Council to contract for the Construction of a Branch Railway.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
This Act may be cited as the Inangahua County Council Empowering Act, 1909.
2 Railway to Reefton Township may be guaranteed by County Council.
(1.)
The Inangahua County Council may from time to time contract with the Minister of Railways for the running of trains for the conveyance of passengers and goods on a branch line of railway from the Reefton Railway-station to any point within the Township of Reefton, and may pay to the said Minister such sum as may from time to time be necessary to provide any deficiency between the actual receipts of such branch line and the cost of maintenance and working-expenses of that line and the interest on the cost of its construction.
Power to levy railway rate.
(2.)
In order to provide for such payments the Council may make and levy a rate (to be called a railway rate) on the capital value of all the rateable property within the County of Inangahua.
3 Cost of construction of branch line.
The cost of constructing the said branch line shall be defrayed by the said County Council, and for that purpose the said Council may borrow moneys as for a public work constructed by a local authority under the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908.
