An Act to authorise the Auckland Harbour Board to borrow the sum of two million three hundred and seventy thousand dollars for harbour works; to authorise the Board to expend money out of its harbour fund on centennial celebrations; and to authorise the Board to provide inland clearance depots
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Auckland Harbour Board Loan and Empowering Act 1968.
2 Interpretation
In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires, “Board”
means the Auckland Harbour Board.
3 Special Act
This Act shall be deemed to be a special Act within the meaning of the Harbours Act 1950.
4 Works authorised
(1)
The works and matters specified in the Schedule to this Act shall be harbour works within the meaning of and for the purposes of the Harbours Act 1950.
(2)
The Board is hereby authorised, subject to that Act, to construct and carry out or to purchase or acquire, maintain, and work, as the case may be, such harbour works.
5 Power to borrow
It shall be lawful for the Board from time to time as it may require to borrow, in addition to the sums authorised by any other Act, and subject to the provisions of the Harbours Act 1950 and the Local Authorities Loans Act 1956, a sum of money not exceeding the sum of two million three hundred and seventy thousand dollars.
6 Expenditure of money
All the money borrowed under and by the authority of this Act shall be applied and expended in the construction and execution of the harbour works and for the other purposes specified in the Schedule to this Act.
7 Authority to expend money on centennial celebrations
The Board may expend money out of its Harbour Fund account on celebrating and commemorating the centennial of the constitution of the Auckland Harbour Board and on the publication of a centennial book.
8 Authority to provide inland clearance depots
The Board may provide, maintain, and operate, either alone or together with any other person on any land legally vested in it, or occupied by the Board or by the Board and such other person whether such land is situated adjacent to the harbour or inland, a depot or depots for the assembly, sorting, and clearance of goods, with facilities for the reception, storage, weighing, and handling of goods and for that purpose may exercise all the powers conferred on the Board under the Harbours Act 1950, including the power to acquire by purchase, lease, or otherwise any land or buildings or interest therein and to construct such warehouses, sheds, and other buildings or works as may be necessary.
