An Act to amend the Thames Valley Drainage Board Empowering Act 1964

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1 Short Title

This Act may be cited as the Thames Valley Drainage Board Empowering Amendment Act 1979, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Thames Valley Drainage Board Empowering Act 1964 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).

2 Metrication

Section 2 of the principal Act is hereby amended—

(a)

By omitting the word “acre” wherever it occurs, and substituting in each case the words “area specified by the Board”:

(b)

By omitting the word “acreage” wherever it occurs, and substituting in each case the word “area”.

3 Allowance to Chairman

(1)

Section 5 of the principal Act is hereby amended by repealing subsection (1), and substituting the following subsection:

“(1)

Notwithstanding the contrary provision in section 11a of the Land Drainage Act 1908, the Chairman of the Board may be paid, out of the funds of the Board, such annual allowance as may be fixed from time to time by the Minister of Local Government with the concurrence of the Minister of Finance, but the allowance of any Chairman may not be reduced during his term of office.”

(2)

Section 24 of the Local Legislation Act 1970 is hereby consequentially repealed.
