An Act to provide for a Deficiency of Ninety Thousand Pounds (£90,000) by the issue of Treasury Bills repayable over the next two Financial Years.
Preamble
MOST GRACIOUS SOVEREIGN—Whereas the revenue has been insufficient by the sum of one hundred and thirty-six thousand nine hundred and twelve pounds six shillings and threepence (£136,912 6s. 3d.) to meet the authorized expenditure: And whereas it is intended that forty-six thousand nine hundred and twelve pounds six shillings and threepence (£46,912 6s. 3d.) part of the said deficiency should be supplied out of the Consolidated Fund during the year ending the thirtieth day of June one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two and it is expedient that authority should be given to raise by Treasury Bills a sufficient sum to meet the residue of such deficiency and that one moiety of such Bills should be paid out of the Consolidated Fund for the year ending the thirtieth day of June one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three and the other moiety out of the Consolidated Fund for the year ending the thirtieth day of June one thousand eight hundred and seventy-four: We Your Majesty’s most dutiful and loyal subjects the Representatives of New Zealand in Parliament assembled towards raising the supplies which have been cheerfully granted to Your Majesty in this Session of Parliament have resolved to grant unto Your Majesty the sum hereinafter mentioned:
Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled and by the authority of the same as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act shall·be “The Treasury Bills Act 1871.”
2 Colonial Treasurer authorized to make out Treasury Bills to the amount of £90,000 such Bills to be made out and issued under the authority of “The Treasury Bills Regulation Act 1868.”
Towards making good the supply granted to Her Majesty during the present Session it shall be lawful for the Colonial Treasurer from time to time to cause any number of Treasury Bills to be made out at the Colonial Treasury for any sum or sums of money not exceeding in the whole the sum of ninety thousand pounds (£90,000) sterling and all such Treasury Bills shall be prepared made out and issued under the authority of and in the manner prescribed by “The Treasury Bills Regulation Act 1868”
and any Act amending the same and may bear interest at any rate not exceeding fourpence (4d.) for every one hundred pounds (£100) by the day in respect of the whole moneys contained therein and such Bills may be renewed and reissued from time to time: Provided always that the currency of the said Bills to the amount of forty-five thousand pounds (£45,000) shall not be made to extend beyond the thirtieth day of June one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three and that the currency of the residue thereof shall not be made to extend beyond the thirtieth day of June one thousand eight hundred and seventy-four.
