An Act to consolidate certain Enactments of the General Assembly relating to the Remission of Fines and Penalties.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
(1.)
The Short Title of this Act is “The Penalties Remission Act, 1908.”
Enactments consolidated.
(2.)
This Act is a consolidation of the enactments mentioned in the Schedule hereto.
2 Interpretation.

In this Act, if not inconsistent with the context,—
“Act” means Act of the Imperial Parliament or of the General Assembly of New Zealand, and includes Provincial Ordinance.
3 Penalties for offences may be remitted by the Governor, although payable to parties other than the Crown.

(1.)
The Governor may from time to time remit, in whole or in part, any sum of money which under any Act is imposed as a penalty, fine, or forfeiture on a convicted offender, although such money may be in whole or in part payable to some corporate or other body, society, or person other than the Crown, and may extend the Royal mercy to any person imprisoned for non-payment of any sum of money so imposed, although the same may be in whole or in part payable to some corporate or other body, society, or person other than the Crown.
(2.)
Any such remission may be subject to any condition the Governor thinks fit to impose.
