An Act to authorise and validate certain Expenditure by Local Authorities in connection with the Visit of the American Fleet to the Port of Auckland.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
This Act may be cited as the Local Authorities’ Indemnity Act, 1908.
2 Local authorities authorised to expend money in connection with visit of American Fleet.
It shall be and be deemed to have been lawful for any local authority to expend during the financial year ending on the thirty-first day of March, nineteen hundred and nine, and whether before or after the passing of this Act, any sum or sums of money for the purpose of taking part in the reception, welcome, or entertainment of the American Fleet or of the officers or crews thereof, at the Port of Auckland or elsewhere in the Provincial District of Auckland in that year.
3 Local authority may authorise payment of personal expenses of members.
This Act shall extend to the expenditure of any moneys of a local authority in paying or refunding any travelling or other personal expenses incurred by any member of a local authority in connection with such reception, welcome, or entertainment.
4 “Local authority”
defined.
For the purposes of this Act the term “local authority”
means a Borough Council, County Council, Road Board, Town Board, or Harbour Board.
