An Act to repeal certain Enactments, and to amend and continue the Operation of certain Expiring Enactments.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
This Act may be cited as the Statutes Repeal and Expiring Laws Amendment and Continuance Act, 1920.
2 Repeals.
(1.)
The enactments mentioned in Part I of the First Schedule hereto (being enactments the operation of which is spent or the duration of which has expired) are hereby specifically repealed.
(2.)
The enactments mentioned in Part II of the First Schedule hereto are hereby repealed.
3 Power to issue debentures in respect of land acquired by the Crown to be permanent.
Section forty-one of the Finance Act, 1916, is hereby amended by repealing subsection six thereof.
4 Extension of period of protection of certain mineral leases in Nelson Land District.
Section thirty-one of the War Legislation Amendment Act, 1916, is hereby amended by omitting the word “twelve,”
and substituting the word “eighteen.”
5 Amendment of provisions as to protection of discharged soldiers from ejectment.
Section thirteen of the War Legislation and Statute Law Amendment Act, 1918, is hereby amended as follows:—
(a.)
By omitting from the definition of the term “soldier”
the words “or who, though not in receipt of such pay, has not yet been a member of the Force for four months”
; and
(b.)
By repealing the definition of the term “discharged soldier,”
and substituting the following definition
“‘Discharged soldier’ means a person who has served beyond the seas as a member of an Expeditionary Force, and who has received his discharge from that Force, or whose appointment (in the case of an officer) has been terminated.”
6 Duration of certain enactments regulating banking and rates of interest extended.
Section forty-eight of the Finance Act, 1916, is hereby amended by omitting the words “twelve months,”
and substituting the words “three years.”
7 Duration of Mortgages Extension Act, 1919, extended.
(1.)
Section four of the Mortgages Extension Act, 1919, is hereby amended by omitting the words “thirty-first day of December, nineteen hundred and twenty,”
and substituting the words “thirtieth day of June, nineteen hundred and twenty-one.”
(2.)
Section seven of the Mortgages Extension Act, 1919, is hereby amended as follows:—
(a.)
By omitting from subsection one the words “thirty-first day of December, nineteen hundred and twenty,”
and substituting the words “thirtieth day of June, nineteen hundred and twenty-one”
; and
(b.)
By omitting from subsection one the words “thirty-first day of December, nineteen hundred and twenty-one,”
and substituting the words “thirtieth day of June, nineteen hundred and twenty-two.”
8 Duration of certain other enactments extended.
(1.)
The enactments mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto shall continue in force until the thirty-first day of August, nineteen hundred and twenty-one, and shall then expire unless further continued.
Consequential repeals.
(2.)
Subsection two of section twenty of the War Legislation Amendment Act, 1916, is hereby repealed.
