An Act to amend the Legislative Council Act, 1914.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: —
1 Short Title.
This Act may be cited as the Legislative Council Amendment Act, 1920, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Legislative Council Act, 1914.
2 Amendment of rules for fixing boundaries of electoral divisions, and the number of members to be elected for each division.
(1.)
Section sixteen of the Legislative Council Act, 1914, is hereby amended by repealing paragraphs (c), (d), (e), and (f) thereof, and substituting the following paragraphs:—
“(c.)
The First Electoral Division shall be the northern part of the North Island, the Second Electoral Division shall be the southern part of the North Island, the Third Electoral Division shall be the northern part of the South Island, and the Fourth Electoral Division shall be the southern part of the South Island.
“(d.)
The boundaries shall be such as in the opinion of the Commissions provide with the nearest approximation that the population of the First Electoral Division shall be the same as the population of the Second Electoral Division, and that the population of the Third Electoral Division shall be the same as the population of the Fourth Electoral Division.”

Section thirteen of the Legislative Council Act, 1914, as amended by section live of the Legislative Council Amendment Act, 1918, is hereby further amended by omitting from subsection three the words “Rules (a) to (f) inclusive,”
and substituting the word “rules”
; and by omitting from the same subsection the words “in Rule (c).”
3 Date of commencement of Legislative Council Act, 1914.
(1.)
Notwithstanding the issue of the Proclamation pursuant to section four of the Legislative Council Amendment Act, 1918, published in the Gazette on the eighth day of January, nineteen hundred and twenty, the Legislative Council Act, 1914, shall not commence on the date appointed by that Proclamation.
(2.)
A date for the commencement of the Legislative Council Act, 1914 (except as provided by sections two and five of the Legislative Council Amendment Act, 1918), shall be appointed by a further Proclamation pursuant to section four of the Legislative Council Amendment Act, 1918.
