An Act to amend the Cook Islands Act, 1915.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
This Act may be cited as the Cook Islands Amendment Act, 1925, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Cook Islands Act, 1915.
2 Authorizing compulsory transfer of lepers from Cook Islands to special hospital maintained by Fiji Government.
(1.)
Every person who at any time is found in the Cook Islands to be suffering from leprosy may, by warrant under the hand of the Resident Commissioner and the Seal of the Cook Islands, be transferred to the special hospital for the treatment of lepers, maintained by the Government of Fiji in the Island of Makogai.
(2.)
In pursuance of such warrant every person named therein in that behalf may be placed on board any ship belonging to His Majesty, or any British ship, to be taken to Fiji and there delivered to the Superintendent or other person having charge of the leper hospital, together with the warrant of the Resident Commissioner.
(3.)
Every person transferred to a leper hospital pursuant to this section shall be entitled, on request, to be returned to the Cook Islands, at the expense in all things of the Cook Islands Administration, if and when he is certified by the Superintendent or by a responsible medical officer in charge of the leper hospital to be cured of leprosy.
