An Act to amend the Rotorua Borough Act, 1922.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
This Act may be cited as the Rotorua Borough Amendment Act, 1925, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Rotorua Borough Act, 1922.
2 Power to increase number of members of Rotorua Borough Council.
(1.)
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in section four of the Rotorua Borough Act, 1922, the Governor-General may at any time, by Order in Council, provide that the total number of members of the Rotorua Borough Council (exclusive of the Mayor) shall be increased to such number, not exceeding twelve, as may be specified in the Order; and may, by the same or a subsequent Order in Council, provide that the additional members shall be appointed by him to hold office during his pleasure, or shall be elected by the electors of the borough; or that one or more of such additional members shall be appointed and that any other or others shall be elected as aforesaid; and in every such case an appointment shall be made or an election shall be held in terms of the Order:
Provided that the powers conferred by this section shall be so exercised that the total number of appointed members of the Council shall not at any time exceed one-half of the total number of elective members (exclusive of the Mayor).
(2.)
Every member of the Council appointed or elected pursuant to this Act shall come into office on a day to be specified in that behalf in the Order in Council, and in the case of an elected member shall hold office until the next general election of Councillors.
