An Act to amend the Coal Mines Act 1925
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Coal Mines Amendment Act 1964, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Coal Mines Act 1925 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Underground experience of candidates for examination
(1)
The principal Act is hereby amended by repealing sections 46 and 47, and substituting the following section:
“46.
No person shall be qualified to be a candidate for examination for a certificate of competency as—
“(a)
A mine manager; or
“(b)
An underviewer; or
“(c)
A fireman deputy—
unless he has had such experience in underground workings in a coal mine or such other experience or class of experience as may be prescribed by regulations under this Act:
“Provided that any such regulations may provide that, in respect of such subjects of any such examination as may be prescribed, the candidate may sit the examination without any such experience or with such limited experience as may be prescribed.”
(2)
Section 8 of the Coal Mines Amendment Act 1959 is hereby repealed.
3 Time and place of examination
Section 50 of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting the words “subject to the approval of the Minister”
.
4 Appointment of examiners
Section 51 of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting the words “subject to the approval of the Minister”
.
This Act is administered in the Mines Department.
