An Act to amend the Summary Offences Act 1981

BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of New Zealand as follows:

1 Short Title and commencement

  • (1) This Act may be cited as the Summary Offences Amendment Act 1997, and is part of the Summary Offences Act 1981 (“the principal Act”).

    (2) This Act comes into force on 1 January 1998.

2 Interpretation

  • This section amended s 2(1) of the principal Act by inserting the definitions of the terms Crime involving violence and Serious drug offence.

3 Associating with convicted thieves

  • This section inserted s 6(2A) of the principal Act.

4 New sections inserted

  • This section inserted ss 6A to 6C of the principal Act.

5 Intimidation

  • This section substituted s 21 of the principal Act.

6 New schedules added

  • This section inserted Schedules 3 and 4 of the principal Act.

7 Fines increased

  • The principal Act is amended in the manner indicated in Schedule 2.
