The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:
1 Title
This Act is the Family Courts Amendment Act 2016.
2 Commencement
This Act comes into force on 1 March 2017.
3 Principal Act
This Act amends the Family Courts Act 1980 (the principal Act).
4 Section 7 amended (Acting Family Court Judges)
Replace section 7(1) with:
(1)
The Chief District Court Judge may authorise a Family Court Judge to act in place of the Principal Family Court Judge if—
(a)
the Principal Family Court Judge is absent for any reason; or
(b)
the office of the Principal Family Court Judge is vacant.
