Proposed amendments
Darien Fenton, in Committee, to move the following amendments:
New Part 3
To insert the following new Part after Part 2 (after line 3 on page 4):
Part 3
Political commitment to Minimum Wage12 New Sections 15 and 16 inserted
The following sections are inserted after section 14:
“15 Political commitment to Minimum Wage
“(1) A leader of a political party represented in Parliament may notify the Minister, in writing,—
“(a) of the party’s agreement with this Act; or
“(b) of the withdrawal of that party’s agreement with this Act.
“(2) The Minister must, as soon as practicable after receiving a notification, make a recommendation to the Governor-General for an Order in Council to add or omit the name of the party to or from the relevant part or parts of Schedule 3, as the case may be.
“(3) The Minister must also make a recommendation to the Governor-General for an Order in Council to omit the name of a political party from Schedule 3 if the party is no longer represented in Parliament.
“(4) The Governor-General may, by Order in Council made on the recommendation of the Minister under subsection (2) or subsection (3), add names to, and omit names from, Schedule 3 in accordance with this section.
“16 Amendment to Act
“(1) The Minister must, on the introduction into the House of Representatives of a Government bill that proposes an amendment to this Act, bring to the attention of the House the consultation process that was followed in the formulation of the proposed amendment.
“(2) That statement must include (without limitation)—
“(a) whether consultation has taken place with the parties that are in agreement with the Act (as listed in Schedule 3):
“(b) the results of the consultation.”

Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Minimum Wage and Remuneration Amendment Bill to provide for a Schedule listing which political parties represented in Parliament support the Act. The provisions follow those in sections 72 and 73 of the New Zealand Superannuation and Retirement Income Act 2001.
The amendments also require the Minister, on introduction into the House of Representatives of a Government bill that proposes an amendment to the Minimum Wage and Remuneration Act, to bring to the attention of the House the consultation process that was followed in formulation of the proposed amendment.
