Advanced Technology Institute Bill
Proposed amendment
Tracey Martin, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 14(1)(b):
In clause 14(1)(b), replace “engage”
(line 36 on page 7) with “identify, engage,”
.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Advanced Technology Institute Bill.
The area of the Advanced Technology Institute (the ATI) competing for research funding and contracts requires more focus. We see the ATI’s role as 80 percent relationship building between business and research entities and 20 percent funding facilitation of research to increase a business’s capacity to expand its exports and markets to the benefit of New Zealand as a whole. New Zealand First identifies this as an area of concern to be given greater attention in legislation.
To facilitate this we propose inserting “identify”
into clause 14(1)(b) after “proactively”
and before “engage”
in an attempt to highlight that the ATI must know who is providing this service while not necessarily engaging with them in an attempt to address inadvertent duplication or competition.
