Advanced Technology Institute Bill
Proposed amendments
David Clendon, in Committee, to move the following amendments:
Clause 10
After clause 10(4)(b)(ii) (after line 25 on page 5), insert “; and”
and also insert:
(iii) the board has available to it, from its members, knowledge, skill and experience relating to tikanga Māori and maatauranga Maori.
Clause 13
Delete clause 13(1)(d) (line 24 on page 6).
Delete clause 13(1)(f) (line 27 on page 6).
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends clause 10 of the Bill. The advisory group should include person(s) able to provide an informed Maori perspective, given the uniqueness of Maori innovation and knowledge.
This Supplementary Order Paper also amends clause 13 of the Bill. The main objective of the Advanced Technology Institute is to support innovation and its commercialisation by the private sector. It is inappropriate for the institute to also be a significant provider of research, or to control allocation of contestable funding, which the current Bill allows.
