Mixed Ownership Model Bill
Proposed amendment
Grant Robertson, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 2
In clause 2, before subclause (1) (before line 5 on page 3), insert:
(1AA) This Act is not eligible to receive the Royal assent until the Finance and Expenditure Committee re-examines the Bill in satisfactory detail, and recommends to the House that it be passed.
Explanatory note
This Bill was reported back from select committee without there being sufficient time for all submissions to be fully considered and without giving the parties in the minority adequate time to discuss their reports in caucus. This is evidenced by the fact that only 1 submission is mentioned in the majority report from nearly 1 500 submissions.
This amendment seeks to send the Bill back to select committee in order to ensure that it has been checked thoroughly for mistakes and the opinion of the public has been genuinely considered. This is rendered even more important by the fact that there is presently a petition for a citizens initiated referendum likely to gain enough signatures for a referendum on the subject of this Bill.
