Natural Health and Supplementary Products Bill
Proposed amendment
Mojo Mathers, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
New clause 6A
After clause 6 (after line 39 on page 11), insert:
6A Te Tiriti o Waitangi
This Act must be interpreted and administered so as to give effect to the articles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Explanatory note
Te Tiriti o Waitangi is the founding document of Aotearoa/New Zealand. As such it is important that legislation sets up regulation that is consistent with its articles. This Supplementary Order Paper inserts a provision in the Bill requiring such consistency. While the practice of rongoā is exempt from product notification under clause 13A(a), the system will potentially regulate use of plants in which Māori have an interest. As such it is important that they are included in the governance and implementation of the scheme.
