Legislation Amendment Bill
Proposed amendment
Holly Walker, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 9
In clause 9, after new section 57E(1)(a)(page 28, after line 9), insert:
(ab) identify any organisations, other than a department or other Government entity, that were consulted about the policy that is to be given effect to by the Bill:
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Bill by adding an additional disclosure requirement for Government Bills. Specifically, it requires the disclosure statement or statements for a Government Bill to include details of the non-departmental organisations (if applicable) that were consulted during the development of the related policy and legislation. This was a unanimous recommendation by the cross-party Government Administration Select Committee to the Government in its report on the Lobbying Disclosure Bill last year, as a measure to bring greater transparency to the development of legislation.
