Proposed amendment

Fletcher Tabuteau, in Committee, to move the following amendment:

Clause 2

Replace clause 2(3) (page 1, line 8) with:

(3)

Sections 5, 6, and 7 come into force 2 years after the date on which this Act receives the Royal assent.

Explanatory note

The Supplementary Order Paper amends clause 2(3) to extend the date of enactment to ensure that every New Zealander is afforded a ‘fair-go’ to sign up to the KiwiSaver scheme in a timely manner that is more appropriate than the timeframe outlined by the Government. The main purpose of this Bill will remove the $1,000 KiwiSaver kick-start contribution paid to all new employees in the KiwiSaver scheme, effective from 2 pm on 21 May 2015. This Supplementary Order Paper will ensure that New Zealanders that are currently not on the KiwiSaver scheme have an opportunity to sign up.
