Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper (the SOP) proposes amendments to the Parental Leave and Employment Protection Amendment Bill (the Bill), which contains amendments to the Parental Leave and Employment Protection Act 1987. The amendments proposed by the SOP extend the number of keeping-in-touch days for employees entitled to paid parental leave. This extension has been apportioned in line with the extension of paid parental leave, and hence maintains the balance between time away from employment to care for baby and the connection with employment without forfeiting entitlements.
