Proposed amendments
Tracey Martin, in Committee, to move the following amendments:
Clause 119
Delete clause 119 (page 63, lines 21 to 24).
Clause 120
Delete clause 120 (page 63, lines 25 to 28).
Clause 122
Delete clause 122 (page 64, lines 3 to 29).
Clause 128
Delete clause 128 (page 67, lines 5 to 6).
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Education (Update) Amendment Bill by repealing the provisions that would abolish Careers New Zealand and transfer the functions to the Tertiary Education Commission. Rather than addressing the goals relating to the provision of careers advice in the secondary education sector, as identified by the Ministry of Education in the Regulatory Impact Statement, the proposal to wind up Careers New Zealand and transfer it to the Tertiary Education Commission appears to be with the sole objective of cost savings. Like many of the submitters on the Bill, we are very concerned that this proposal will undermine the quality and relevance of the careers information that is available for students in the compulsory schooling sector.
