Land Transport Amendment Bill (No 2)
Proposed amendment
Sue Moroney, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 58
Delete clause 58 (page 36, lines 19 and 20).
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper deletes clause 58 from the Land Transport Amendment Bill (No 2). Its effect is to retain section 30B of the principal Act, which outlines the requirements for the holders of transport service licences to ensure important information is provided in Braille. This is to ensure the ongoing safety of blind New Zealanders when they use small passenger services, something that is often integral to their day-to-day lives. This requirement can be fulfilled at low cost with a large benefit for blind New Zealanders, who are able to remain safe by identifying who they are travelling with. The Transport and Industrial Relations Committee heard evidence that the Braille stickers could be produced for $20 per unit.
