Employment Relations Amendment Bill
Proposed amendments
Hon Scott Simpson, in Committee, to move the following amendments:
Clause 29
Delete clause 29 (page 18, line 24 to page 19, line 19).
Clause 29A
Delete clause 29A (page 19, lines 20 to 24).
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Employment Relations Amendment Bill by deleting clauses 29 and 29A.
The intention of this amendment is to ensure that the current provisions for 90-day trials remain. The removal of trial periods for businesses will impact severely on potential employees looking for their first job, due to the possibility of employers being unwilling to take a chance on an unskilled and inexperienced individual. Any limit for the provisions of 90-day trials will mean added compliance and regulation for employers, with mandated recording and monitoring of employee numbers, therefore taking up more administrative time of businesses when this time could be better spent on production.
