Crown Minerals (Petroleum) Amendment Bill
Proposed amendments
Gareth Hughes, in Committee, to move the following amendments:
New clause 6A
After clause 6 (page 3, after line 2), insert:
6A Section 35 amended (Duration of permit)
In section 35, replace subsection (4) with:
(4)
An exploration permit for petroleum may not be extended, despite section 35A.
Clause 7
In clause 7 (page 3, after line 6), insert as subclause (2):

In section 36, replace subsection (3) with:
(3)
The duration of any exploration permit for petroleum or any petroleum mining permit may not be extended, despite anything in this section or section 35A.
Schedule
In new Part 2 of Schedule 1, new clause 23 (page 4, line 19), replace “A permit for petroleum”
with “Subject to subclause (2), a permit for petroleum”
.
In new Part 2 of Schedule 1, new clause 23 (page 4, line 21), delete “(including sections 32, 36, 39, and 40)”
.
In new Part 2 of Schedule 1, new clause 23 (page 4, after line 25), insert as subclause (2):

Despite subclause (1), sections 35 and 36 apply as amended by the Amendment Act to a permit for petroleum that existed immediately before the commencement of the Amendment Act.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Crown Minerals (Petroleum) Amendment Bill. This prevents extension to the duration of current permits, promoting certainty about the phase out of petroleum mining.
