Proposed amendment
Chris Penk, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 5
In clause 5, in new section 55D, after paragraph (d) (page 3, after line 37), insert:
(e)
state that, after completion of all other requirements imposed by the rules of the political party for which the member of Parliament was elected to relating to selection of candidates, the next available list candidate for that party has been informed of the leader’s intention to give notice under section 55A(3)(b) and has indicated they wish to accept the seat when it becomes available.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Electoral (Integrity) Amendment Bill. This amendment will ensure that, before the removal of a member from a parliamentary political party, appropriate processes and preparation have taken place to find, notify, and get confirmation of acceptance from the next available person on the party’s list.
