Proposed amendment
Chris Bishop, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 5
In clause 5, after new section 55D (page 3, after line 37), insert:
55DA Time allowed for judicial review
If a notice is provided by a leader of a political party under section 55C, and the member who is the subject of the notice begins judicial proceedings in relation to the notice, subsection 55A(3) shall not apply until the outcome of the judicial proceedings.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends clause 5 to add new section 55DD to prevent a member of Parliament being expelled until all judicial proceedings associated with the notice are concluded.
