Education (Teaching Council of Aotearoa) Amendment Bill
Proposed amendment
Hon Nikki Kaye, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 5
In clause 5, new section 380(4), in paragraph (b) (page 4, lines 3 and 4), replace “.”
with “; and”
, and after paragraph (b), insert:
(c)
the Minister must report back to the Teaching Council on the election results with regard to the elected members’ contribution to the collective skills, experience, and knowledge of the Teaching Council, including (but not limited to) the candidates’ knowledge and experience in any of the following areas:
(i)
education:
(ii)
governance:
(iii)
leadership experience and skills:
(iv)
financial skills:
(v)
understanding of the partnership principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Education (Teaching Council of Aotearoa) Amendment Bill. It will ensure that once the results are confirmed, the Minister can evaluate the suitability of the newly elected members of the Teachers Council against the same criteria and skill set that is used when considering ministerially appointed members of the Council.
