Proposed amendment
Erica Stanford, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 5A
In clause 5A, replace new section 388(1)(aaa) (page 5, lines 5 and 6) with:
(aaa)
the conduct of elections for electing members to the Teaching Council, including—
(i)
the election process; and
(ii)
rules that ensure that the process of nominating and electing members does not undermine the independence of the Teaching Council from any relevant industry advocacy organisations; and
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Education (Teaching Council of Aotearoa) Amendment Bill. It will ensure that in the process of creating rules regarding the election of members, the Teaching Council will implement appropriate safeguards to ensure that there is no real or perceived lack of independence between the Council and any industry advocacy organisations.
