Proposed amendments
Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, in Committee, to move the following amendments:
Schedule 1
In Schedule 1, Part 1, delete “There are no transitional, savings, or related provisions in this Act as enacted.”
(page 3, line 6).
In Schedule 1, Part 1 (page 3, after line 5), insert:
1 Continuation of Act for industries where Māori workers are disproportionately impacted
(1)
Despite the repeal of the Fair Pay Agreements Act 2022 by section 5 of this Act, the provisions of that Act are to be treated as continuing in force for the purposes of concluding and regulating fair pay agreements in any of the following sectors, where Māori workers are disproportionately represented:
(a)
early childhood education:
(b)
transport:
(c)
security:
(d)
sanitation:
(e)
supermarket:
(f)
hospitality.
(2)
Subclause (1) continues to have effect despite the repeal of this Act under section 4.
Explanatory note
This Amendment Paper amends the Fair Pay Agreements Act Repeal Bill. It provides an exemption for particular sectors where Māori workers would be disproportionately harmed by the repeal of fair pay agreements.
