An Act to confer Additional Powers on the Corporation of the City of Wellington.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Wellington City Empowering Act 1917.
2 Interpretation
In this Act, if not inconsistent with the context,—
City means the City of Wellington
Council means the Wellington City Council.

Section 3 was repealed, as from 1 April 1934, by section 332(11) Municipal Corporations Act 1933 (1933 No 30).
Subsections (5A.) and (5B.) were inserted, as from 29 October 1919, by section 3 Wellington City Empowering and Amendment Act 1919 (1919 No 6(L)).
4 Power to maintain private streets and private ways and to light private ways
The Council may maintain and repair such private streets and private ways in the city as it thinks fit, and may light such private ways in the city as it thinks fit.
