  • Preamble

    WHEREAS by subsection (2) of section 1 of the Cook Islands Amendment Act 1957 (hereinafter called the Act) it is provided that Parts 1, 2, and 3 and sections 95 and 96 of the Act shall come into force on the date to be appointed for the commencement thereof by the Governor-General by Proclamation, and different dates may be so appointed for the purpose of different sections and Parts of the Act:

    Now, therefore, I, Charles John, Viscount Cobham, the Governor-General of New Zealand, hereby proclaim as follows:

  • This Proclamation may be cited as the Cook Islands Amendment Act Commencement Order 1959.

  • The following provisions of the Act shall come into force on the 1st day of April 1959, namely:

    • (a) Sections 3 to 31:

    • (b) Section 95 and subsection (1) of section 96 to the extent that they amend or repeal enactments that correspond to any of the provisions specified in paragraph (a) of this clause:

      Provided that these enactments shall continue in force in Niue as if this Proclamation had not been made.
