An Act to amend the Tokelau (Territorial Sea and Exclusive Economic Zone) Act 1977
BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of New Zealand as follows:
1 Short Title and commencement

(1) This Act may be cited as the Tokelau (Territorial Sea and Exclusive Economic Zone) Amendment Act 1999, and is part of the Tokelau (Territorial Sea and Exclusive Economic Zone) Act 1977 (
“the principal Act”
).(2) This Act comes into force on a date to be appointed by the Governor-General by Order in Council.
This Act came into force, as from 1 May 2001, pursuant to clause 2 Tokelau (Territorial Sea and Exclusive Economic Zone) Amendment Act Commencement Order 2001 (SR 2001/36).
2 Control of foreign fishing in zone
Section 8(1) of the principal Act is amended by adding the following paragraph:
“(n) Providing that a breach of any regulation made under this section may be dealt with by way of a civil penalty, not exceeding one-third of the applicable maximum monetary penalty specified in paragraph (k).”
3 General regulations
Section 11 of the principal Act is amended by adding the following paragraph:
“(j) Regulating the use of Tokelauan fishing craft to take fish outside the exclusive economic zone of Tokelau.”
