Pursuant to section 3(a) of the Health Act 1956, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following order.
Order
1 Title
This order is the Infectious and Notifiable Diseases Order 2012.
2 Commencement
This order comes into force on the 28th day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.
3 Schedule 1 of Health Act 1956 amended
In Schedule 1, Part 1, Section B of the Health Act 1956,—
(a) delete
“Enterobacter sakazakii invasive disease”
:
(b) insert in their appropriate alphabetical order
“Cronobacter species”
,“Q fever”
, and“Verotoxin-producing or shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli”
:
(c) replace
“Rabies”
with“Rabies and other lyssaviruses”
.
4 Schedule 2 of Health Act 1956 amended
In Schedule 2, Section A of the Health Act 1956, repeal all the items.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This order, which comes into force on the 28th day after the date of its notification in the Gazette, amends Schedules 1 and 2 of the Health Act 1956. The amendments to Section B of Part 1 of Schedule 1 (which lists infectious diseases that must be notified to a medical officer of health)—
rename Enterobacter sakazakii invasive disease as Cronobacter species:
replace
“rabies”
with“rabies and other lyssaviruses”
:insert verotoxin-producing or shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli and Q fever.
Schedule 2 is amended by repealing all the items in Section A (conditions arising from occupation).
