BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of New Zealand as follows:

This Act may be cited as the Local Government Amendment Act 1997, and is part of the Local Government Act 1974 (“the principal Act”).

(1) This subsection amended s 2(1) of the principal by substituting the definition of the term region.

(2) Section 2(6) of the Local Government Amendment Act 1992 is consequentially repealed.
