An Act to amend the Electoral Act 1993
BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of New Zealand as follows:
1 Short Title and commencement

(1) This Act may be cited as the Electoral Amendment Act (No 2) 1996, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Electoral Act 1993 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
(2) This Act shall come into force on the day on which this Act receives the Royal assent.

This section inserted s 5(ba) of the principal Act.

This section inserted s 8(4) of the principal Act.

This section inserted s 11(3A) of the principal Act.

10 Transitional provision in relation to membership of Electoral Commission
Every person who holds office as a member of the Broadcasting Standards Authority under section 26(3)(b) of the Broadcasting Act 1989 immediately before the commencement of this section, shall be deemed, as from the commencement of this section, to have vacated office as a member of the Broadcasting Standards Authority and to have been appointed as a member of the Electoral Commission under section 8(4)(b) of the principal Act (as added by section 3 of this Act) for a term beginning with the commencement of this section and ending with the close of the 11th day of December 1996.
