This order is made under section 2(1) of the Biosecurity Law Reform Act 2012 on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council.

1 Title
This order is the Biosecurity Law Reform Act 2012 Commencement Order 2017.
2 Commencement of section 19 and Part 2 of Biosecurity Law Reform Act 2012
Section 19 and Part 2 of the Biosecurity Law Reform Act 2012 come into force on 8 September 2017.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This order brings into force, on 8 September 2017, section 19 and Part 2 of the Biosecurity Law Reform Act 2012 (the Act).
Part 2 of the Act amends the Maritime Transport Act 1994 to set up a regime under which ballast water may be discharged from a ship only in accordance with marine protection rules.
Section 19 of the Act makes a related amendment to section 18 of the Biosecurity Act 1993, which is a consequence of moving the management of ballast water risks from the Biosecurity Act 1993 to the Maritime Transport Act 1994.
