Pursuant to sections 28B and 28C of the Fisheries Act 1983, the Minister of Fisheries, acting after consultation with the Fishing Industry Board, and after allowing for the matters specified in section 28C, hereby gives the following notice.

1 Title and commencement
(1)
This notice may be cited as the Fisheries (Squid Quota Management Areas, Total Allowable Catches, and Catch Histories) Notice 1987.
(2)
This notice shall come into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.
2 Interpretation
(1)
In this notice—
Act means the Fisheries Act 1983
jigging means any fishing method for taking squid by means of a line rather than a net
squid means the fish of which the scientific name is Nototodarus sloani or Nototodarus gouldi, commonly known as arrow squid.
(2)
In this notice a reference to a named quota management area is a reference to the area of that name as defined in Schedule 1 of the Fisheries Act 1996.

3 Quota management areas
4 Quota for stock defined by method of fishing
Where a particular method of fishing is specified in the Schedule alongside a quota management area, quota for the stock in that area relates only to squid taken by that method.
Clause 4: replaced, on 29 September 2015, by clause 9(1) of the Fisheries (Total Allowable Catch, Total Allowable Commercial Catch, and Deemed Value Rates) Notice 2015 (LI 2015/211).
5 Period to be used to determine provisional maximum individual transferable quotas
The period to be used under section 28E(1) of the Act in determining provisional maximum individual transferable quotas for squid is the fishing year commencing on 1 October 1986.

1 General
This is a consolidation of the Fisheries (Squid Quota Management Areas, Total Allowable Catches, and Catch Histories) Notice 1987 that incorporates the amendments made to the legislation so that it shows the law as at its stated date.
