The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:
1 Title
-
(1) This Act is the Animal Welfare Amendment Act 2001.
(2) In this Act, the Animal Welfare Act 1999 is called
“the principal Act”
.
2 Commencement
This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent.
3 Matters to be considered
Section 73(3)(b) of the principal Act is amended by omitting the expression
“section 12(1)(c)”
, and substituting the expression“section 12(c)”
.
4 Appointment of inspectors
Section 124(7) of the principal Act is amended by omitting the words
“affiliated to”
, and substituting the words“that is a branch or member of”
.
5 Compliance with enforcement order
Section 145(2) of the principal Act is amended by repealing paragraph (a), and substituting the following paragraph:
-
“(a) comply with the order on behalf of the person who fails to comply with the order and, for that purpose,—
“(i) enter, without warrant but with a member of the police, a marae or dwellinghouse; and
“(ii) enter, without warrant or a member of the police, any other land or structure; and”.

6 Transitional provision relating to affiliated societies

(1) Section 190 of the principal Act is amended by omitting from subsections (1) and (2)(a) the words
“affiliated to”
in both cases where they appear, and substituting in each case the words“a branch or member of”
.(2) The heading to section 190 of the principal Act is amended by omitting the word
“affiliated”
, and substituting the words“branch and member”
.
