These regulations are made under section 37(1)(a) of the Children’s Commissioner Act 2022 on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council.

Regulations
1 Title
These regulations are the Children’s Commissioner (Relevant Agencies) Regulations 2023.

2 Commencement
These regulations come into force on 1 July 2023.
3 Interpretation
In these regulations, Act means the Children’s Commissioner Act 2022.
Regulation 3: amended, on 1 August 2025, by section 29 of the Oversight of Oranga Tamariki System Legislation Amendment Act 2025 (2025 No 34).
4 Transitional, savings, and related provisions
The transitional, savings, and related provisions (if any) set out in Schedule 1 have effect according to their terms.
5 Relevant agencies that may endorse candidate applying to be Children’s Commissioner
For the purposes of section 13(2) of the Act, the following may endorse a candidate applying to be the Children’s Commissioner:
(a)
a national organisation that represents Māori, particularly Māori welfare:
(b)
an organisation that has the mandate to represent an iwi:
(c)
an organisation that works with or for children and young people, including (without limitation) any organisation focused on advocacy for children and young people, and their rights:
(d)
an organisation focused on services or support of children and young people, including (without limitation) any organisation focused on their health and well-being, and disability services or support:
(e)
an organisation led by children or young people:
(f)
an organisation that represents the views and ideas of children and young people, including (without limitation) the views and ideas of children or young people with experience of care.

On and after 1 August 2025, every reference in any legislation and in any document to the Children and Young People’s Commission (Relevant Agencies) Regulations 2023 must, unless the context otherwise requires, be read as a reference to the Children’s Commissioner (Relevant Agencies) Regulations 2023.

1 General
This is a consolidation of the Children’s Commissioner (Relevant Agencies) Regulations 2023 that incorporates the amendments made to the legislation so that it shows the law as at its stated date.
2 Legal status
