An Act to provide for John Wynn Hughes Williams compensation in Government Scrip on account of damages arising from breach of contract by the Canterbury Association.
Preamble
WHEREAS John Wynn Hughes Williams of Richmond near the City of Melbourne in the Colony of Victoria has made claim for compensation for damages sustained by him by reason of the non-fulfilment of a certain contract made with him by the Canterbury Association for the sale to him of land to be selected under order of choice No. 31 in the Canterbury Settlement And whereas it is just that compensation be made to the said John Wynn Hughes Williams for the non-fulfilment of the said contract
Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled and by the authority of the same as follows—
I Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Williams Compensation Act 1866.”
II Power given to Colonial Treasurer to issue a debenture for £300.
The Colonial Treasurer shall make and issue to the said John Wynn Hughes Williams a debenture for the amount of three hundred pounds and such debenture shall be charged on the Territorial Revenue of the Province of Canterbury and shall be received by the Receiver of Land Revenue in the said Province as cash in or towards the payment for any land which may at any time hereafter be bought or which may have been bought by the said John Wynn Hughes Williams his heirs or assigns.
