An Act to vest the control of certain Reserves within the Township of Queenstown, in the Province of Otago, in the Municipal Corporation of the said Town.
Preamble.
WHEREAS certain lands in Queenstown, in the Province of Otago, have been set apart as reserves for public recreation, for the use of the inhabitants of Queenstown: And whereas it is desirable that the control and management of such reserves should be vested in the Municipal Corporation of Queenstown:
Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Queenstown Reserves Act, 1873.”
2 Superintendent to vest lands in Corporation of Queenstown.
The Superintendent of the Province of Otago is hereby authorized to vest the management of the lands described in the Schedule hereto in the Corporation of the Town of Queenstown and its successors, as a corporate body, in trust for purposes of public recreation for the Town of Queenstown and its inhabitants, under such conditions as shall secure the full maintenance of the purpose for which the said lands have been reserved.
3 Corporation may lease lands under conditions.
The Corporation may, with the consent of the Superintendent, lease the said lands for any term not exceeding seven years, under the condition that the inhabitants of the Town of Queenstown shall not be excluded therefrom except in furtherance of the purpose for which the said lands have been reserved.
4 Rents and profits to be expended on lands.
The rents and profits arising under any lease of such lands shall be expended in improving the same, and for no other purpose.
Schedule
All that area in the Town of Queenstown, containing by estimation one (1) rood and twenty (20) poles, more or less. Bounded—towards the North-west by Sections numbered respectively 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23, Block XV., and two rights of way seven hundred and eighty (780) links; towards the North-east by Sections numbered respectively 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13, Block XIV., three hundred and eight (308) links; towards the South-east by Marine Parade, fifty (50) links, also by high watermark of Lake Wakatipu, seven hundred and fifty-six (756) links; and towards the South-west by high watermark of Lake Wakatipu, two hundred and sixty (260) links, also by Hay Street, twenty-seven (27) links.
All that area situate in the Province of Otago, being Block XXXII., Queenstown, containing by admeasurement eight (8) acres and nine (9) poles, more or less. Bounded—towards the North-west by Commonage Reserve, five hundred and sixty (560) links, and by Cemetery Reserve, one hundred and sixty-five (165) links; towards the North-east by Hay Street, one thousand and twenty-five (1025) links; towards the South-east by Main Street, eight hundred and ninety-five (895) links; and towards the South-west by Northumberland Street, nine hundred and sixty (960) links.
