An Act to enable the Governor to make a Crown Grant to Walter Lawrence Martin of a Piece of Land at Wanganui.
Preamble.
WHEREAS Walter Lawrence Martin, formerly an officer in Her Majesty’s 15th Regiment of Foot, under the regulations then in force under “The Waste Lands Act, 1858,”
obtained a land order entitling him to select four hundred acres in the Province of Wellington, and in accordance with such order selected the piece of land described in the Schedule hereto: And whereas, after residing in the said province for nearly three years after making such selection, he became insane, and was in consequence of such insanity sent to England, where he has since continued to reside: And whereas, according to the terms of the regulations hereinbefore mentioned, if the said Walter Lawrence Martin had resided in the said province for forty-eight calendar months out of the period of five years from such selection as aforesaid, he would have been entitled to a Crown grant of the land so selected: And whereas the wife of the said Walter Lawrence Martin has continued to reside within the Province of Wellington: And whereas it is desirable that such grant should be made to the said Walter Lawrence Martin as hereinafter provided:
Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Martin Grant Act, 1875.”
2 Governor authorized to make a grant of certain land to Walter Lawrence Martin.
Notwithstanding anything contained in “The Waste Lands Act, 1858,”
or in any regulations made thereunder as aforesaid, it shall be lawful for the Governor, on behalf of Her Majesty, to make and execute a Crown grant of the piece of land described in the Schedule hereto to the said Walter Lawrence Martin and his heirs.
Schedule
All that piece or parcel of land, containing by admeasurement 420 acres, more or less, being the Section numbered 368 on the plan of the left bank of the Wanganui River bounded towards the North by Sections numbered 370 and 371, five thousand five hundred and ninety-seven (5,597) links, and by Section numbered 309, four hundred and eighty-six (486) links; towards the North-east by Section numbered 243, three hundred and thirty-one (331) links; towards the East by Section numbered 309, three hundred and twenty (320) links; towards the South-east by Section numbered 243, six thousand three hundred and seventy-four (6,374) links, and by the Kaukatia Stream; and towards the South-west and North-west by Sections numbered 204 and 369, two thousand six hundred (2,600) links and six thousand four hundred and thirty-eight (6,438) links respectively; subject to a right of road one hundred (100) links wide to be reserved through the said Section.
