An Act to provide for the Establishment of a School of Design, Technics, and other Educational Purposes in the City of Wellington, and for the vesting of certain Lands situate in the said City in the Education Board of the District of Wellington, and the Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of the City of Wellington respectively.
Preamble.
WHEREAS it is expedient to provide for the erection in the City of Wellington of a School of Design, Technics, and other Educational Purposes: And whereas the land described in the First Schedule hereto has been set apart for the purpose of a School of Art and site for an office for the Education Board of the District of Wellington: And whereas it having been found that the land described in the Second Schedule hereto, and belonging to the Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of the City of Wellington (hereinafter called “the Corporation”
), is well adapted for the purpose of the proposed School of Design, Technics, and other Educational Purposes; and the Council of the City of Wellington and the Education Board of the District of Wellington assenting to this Act, it is desirable that the said several lands should respectively be vested in manner hereinafter appearing:
Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act is “The Wellington School of Design and Exchange Act, 1890.”
2 Land in First Schedule vested in Wellington Corporation on same trusts as it held land in Second Schedule.
The land described in the First Schedule hereto is hereby absolutely vested in the Corporation, to be held by it upon the same trusts, with the same powers, and in the same manner as the land described in the Second Schedule was held by it immediately before the coming into force of this Act.
3 Land in Second Schedule vested in Wellington Education Board as site for office and for School of Design.
The land described in the Second Schedule hereto is vested in the Education Board of the District of Wellington as a site for an office for the said Board, and as a site for a School of Arts, Design, and Technics: Provided that the same shall be inalienable by sale, mortgage, or otherwise howsoever, except with the previous authority of a special Act.
SCHEDULES
FIRST SCHEDULE Description of Land to be vested in the Wellington Corporation
All that piece of land containing 30·6 perches, more or less, being Sections Nos. 3 and 5, Block III., on the plan of the Thorndon reclaimed land, in the City of Wellington.
SECOND SCHEDULE Description of Land to be vested in the Wellington Education Board
All that parcel of land situate in the City of Wellington, forming part of the lands reclaimed from the sea by the Wellington City Corporation under the provisions of “The Te Aro Reclamation Act, 1879,”
containing 1 rood 7·4 perches, the north-west corner of which is 66·7 links south and 551·2 links east of the permanent standard-mark at the junction of Old Customhouse Street with Willis Street. Bounded thence by Mercer Street, 151·5 links, on the north-east; by a line, 224·3 links, at right angles to Mercer Street on the south-east; by Victoria Street, 162 links, on the south-west; and by a line, 166·9 links, at right angles to Mercer Street on the north-west.
