An Act to constitute the Chatham Islands a County under “The Counties Act, 1886.”
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act is “The Chatham Islands County Act, 1901.”
2 Chatham Islands County constituted.
The islands known as the Chatham Islands are hereby constituted a county under “The Counties Act, 1886.”
3 Proclamation bringing Act into operation.
The Governor may, at any time after the passing of this Act, by Proclamation,—
(1.)
Divide the county into ridings, with such names and boundaries as he thinks fit;
(2.)
Fix the number of members to be elected for each riding, but so that the number of members for the whole Council shall not exceed nine;
(3.)
Appoint some person to make up an electors’ roll for each of the said ridings;
(4.)
Prescribe the manner in which such electors’ roll shall be made up;
(5.)
Appoint a time and place for holding the election of the first Council; and
(6.)
Generally making provision for bringing this Act into operation.
